The Journey Begins

So today’s the day I announce to the world (in a soft voice) that I’m an author.

I’ve written (most) of my novel, signed up for Kindle Direct Publishing, downloaded iBook author to format my manuscript for iBooks, created an author page on Facebook, etc etc. Now what?

Well I’ll tell you what. In the past week I’ve discovered establishing a social media presence is like taking on a 4th job.

I’ve stayed up until midnight or later trying to fit it all in. Writing, reading, learning about self-publishing and marketing. Then it’s up at 6 am to workout, get the kiddos off to school and log in to do my day job. I’m fortunate to be able to work from home 4 days a week but I don’t remember the last time I worked a straight 8 hour day.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve promised myself to log off of the computer when my shift is over only to realize I’m still working 45 minutes later. Sometimes for free, because overtime isn’t always authorized.

My evening’s consist of dinner, playing chauffeur, ambushing my children into a small amount of family bonding time before sending them off to bedtime and trying to cater to the fluffy baby in the house who demands attention and isn’t above jumping on my laptop mid keystroke to get it.

I’ll be honest at this point I’m a whole lot sleep deprived and feeling a little overwhelmed trying to keep up with it all.

(I’m writing this during one of my required 15 minute breaks).

But this is what I wanted right?

Thanks for joining me!
