The editing process has begun. How many times can I read and re-read the same words objectively. I’ll be honest. I can’t. I’ve skimmed over the chapters I’m supposed to be editing and instead of removing content I’ve added more.
Editing software is your friend. I’m on my third pass of my manuscript and my third software application. Each one has revealed different grammatical errors and I am finally starting to feel like progress is being made. For instance I like to use the phrase “of course”, a lot. Is it a magical word for establishing aunthenticy? Doubtful, so why do I have it? I don’t even use it in my every day life. But each of my characters do. Bye bye words that serve no purpose.
Guys and gals, chopping up your manuscript sucks. If you had trouble writing all these words to begin with, I imagine it sucks times two.
But here’s a thought, I’m not an authority mind you, but editing using more than just your eyeballs makes your writing suck less. In the end isn’t that what we want?
